Survey and Intervention on Sanitary Condition of Peking University Health Science Center Dormitory
Dormitory is one of the main places for students to live and study. Students' dormitory condition and sanitary situation directly affect their physical and mental health and learning efficiency. Literature points out that a clean and fresh environment not only can make the students feel safe and comfortable but also can provide peace of mind to students. The 3th dormitory of Peking University Health Science Center is generally have 4 students to 1 room. The room is fairly narrow with a many belongings. Moreover, the stress from medical students' heavy schoolwork do not support them with time for cleaning their rooms. Over time, the dormitory’ hygiene level becomes terrible. Some dormitories get ≤ 60 points (out of 100), and only a fraction of dormitories can get ≥ 90 points at the end of every month’s dormitory sanitary test.
It is of critical necessity to take some interventions to improve dormitory hygiene, in order to improve the students’ health and their learning environment.
1、We conducted a survey to know the main causes of poor hygiene;
2、Based on the questionnaire investigation outcomes, we implemented feasible and corresponding solutions.
3、We distributed brochures and pasted posters, warning signs in the dormitory, sent out SMS alerts, and carried out health workshops.
